M. Rahim Shayegan is Assistant Professor of Iranian at UCLA. He received his BA in ancient history and philosophy from the Albertus-Magnus University of Cologne, and his MA in Iranian philology from the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle, followed by doctoral work at the Georg-August University of Göttingen. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, in 2000. Subsequently, he was a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows, Harvard University. In 2004, he joined the faculty of the department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles, and became the first holder of the Musa Sabi Term Chair in Iranian Studies (2005-2009).<br/><br/>He has published on ancient Iranian history and philology, and is the author of Arsacids and Sasanians: Political Ideology in Post-Hellenistic and Late Antique Persia.
